Here's how my ASi 486 is looking now as well! It's all complete except for the whole HDD deal. That's the original drive that was in the machine when I got it hooked up right now. I have another 1.6gb drive that I'm gonna try in here as well. I like having this machine running on a real HDD instead of CF (at least for now)

Just found out about CPUz Vintage Edition, designed to run on Win9x! Here it is identifying the Am486 DX-4 100 CPU in my ASi 486. Booted from its original Win98 FR drive because my 1.6gb replacement died.- lol

And this is no joke. It's an OEM install from a Hewlett Packard (I think some of their machines came with these Bigfoot drives), but someone installed this unofficial service pack with this lookin' boot screen. Last files on the drive were dated 2010~ ... It's like a horrible version of the real 98SE unofficial service pack boot screen.

Booting up this Quantum Bigfoot TS 8.9GB that I found! What could be on it?

Scandisk'ing the hard disk that I just wrote. Frustration level: medium...

Writing my Win98 image to the 1.6GB HDD that I intended to put in the 486. Frustration level: low~...

Also I used this HDD because I had no other CF card adapters.

The first night of putting the ASI 486 back together (this is the same one from sep'20 but in a different case). This is where I left off for the night. I'll put up another picture when it's all done, and a page about it in the "computers" section.

I asked a good friend of mine if they had any old computer stuff they didn't want. I came back with this stuff.
I wanted to use the mobo for a new Win98 machine since the old mobo in mine died a few days prior. Funnily enough, nothing worked! Not even the standless LCD. I just kept the CPU, RAM and heatsink, and got rid of the rest. :(

This machine was mostly parted out, but I threw some parts back in there to get it running. Video card is the Radeon 9250 because why not, string tied to the case to hold the hard disk IN the floppy drive bay so that the IDE cable could reach the optical drive, random memory modules = 1.5gb, IDE and Molex strung through the front, with a CD case taped to the drive bay as insulating material. BEAUTY.

The PA-2007 took 4 hours to image a 30GB drive, so I thought I was out of ideas, when I remembered the Dell Dimension 3000! This is NOT the one I got from the thrift store on Feb 27, it's one my friend gave to me in 2018. I threw in a random XP drive to boot, and strung Molex and IDE out the front panel, and the new IDE imaging machine is ready to go!
Mar 9, 2021

Imaging an IDE drive over the network -- Windows XP running on the PA-2007 (no longer in its case) rocking the AMD K6 233. I used to have my Win98 machine dual booting Windows XP, mostly for imaging IDE drives, but that install got trashed and doesn't boot anymore, so I've been running this setup for a while. It's slow as hell, but it works.

GHETTO CD PLAYER: I put this together for my brother, since his CD player died. It's temporarily using my PSU with the ATX to AT adapter (for the power switch) to power the Creative CD420E, a really really old 4x CD-ROM drive that does actually still work. It's probably worth a good buck. Oh well. And on top is the Sanyo speaker as seen in one of the photos below.

Feb 27, 2021

Laying out my thrift store finds. I was in need of more spare parts, so I picked up a trashed Dell Dimension 2350. I wasn't able to start it up, since the CPU cooler mount was destroyed by the previous owner. I've already fully parted it out, but the parts will go to good use. Sitting in the bottom of the case were some other goodies, seen on the side panel, [close up], and I also picked up a Neovo F-419 LCD monitor, because I needed a monitor with DVI. [close up] It's actually quite a nice, clear and BIG monitor.

This is sort of my new test setup speaker, a little Sanyo Portable CD Player speaker from the 80s. I can easlily just plug it in, hook it up to the sound card, and get going. I used to use old Apple earbuds as test speakers, but I got more and more frustrated with the lack of an actual mechanical volume knob, and not to mention, they obviously sounded horrible as speakers. This little Sanyo thingy actually sounds great, and is super well built. Feels real high quality, no crackles in the sound, and is in great condition after all these years too. Would reccomend (only available in a thrift store near you).

This is the same S3 Trio64 card as seen in the previous photos from today, but I installed the memory expansion chips that were sitting in the bottom of its antistatic bag. They work perfectly, so I'm not sure why they weren't installed. Now I can go rockin that 2MB, babyyyy

Two VGA connectors... Video accelerator card? Nah mate -- DUAL MONITORS bAbY
Jan 28, 2021

Here you can see the 2 video cards in use here. This was before (consumer range) video cards had multiple video outputs on them. Main card is still the ATI Mach64 GT, and the second is a Video Excel S3 Trio64 V2/DX.

First time experimenting with dual mointors in Windows 98. Yes, this computer has more monitors than my main setup. As you can see on the monitors we are reviewing the most life changing and beautiful art.

Probably the best use of Internet Explorer you could think of. I'll probably install Mozilla 1.0 since it has better rendering, but I didn't have a copy of the installer on my local server at the time.

The Toshiba Satellite A100 rises again. Now running Lubuntu 16.0.4 LTS, and using it for my school work and web browsing. This is actually the only laptop I own that works, except for the Dell Latitude c600 from 1999. Wallpaper is from

Here's the same system, sans case. I stripped the case of its parts and plan to put this motherboard as well as a bit more into a nice Mini Tower case. I hate these desktop cases, but I couldn't pass it off for what kind of hardware I'd get. I temporarily put my Pentium board in the case, but plan to get a Mini Tower for that one too as well. When both of my AT motherboards have tower cases, I'll sell the desktop one. Might have a go on retr0brighting it as well.

And I know you've been asking, and here it is. The CPU in all its glory, the AMD 486 DX4-100 CPU. WOW, what a find. I purchased this machine for much less than you would expect, but also without knowing what kind of hardware I would get apart from it being a 486 class system.
Sep 4, 2020

This is an ISA 486 based system with a very nice motherboard probably from 1994, an Arvida Technology S802G v2.0. In the expansion department we have a Sound Blaster Vibra 16 CT4170, Cirrus Logic CL-GD5426 VLB Video Card and a Winbond UN-1082 VLB Controller card. Seems like this system has been upgraded over time. Quite nice hardware.

Here's a view from the front panel. The case was from the same "trashpicked celeron". The motherboard was from a trashed Packard Bell, and if you're familiar with LPX boards, you might notice a lack of... a riser card. Well actually, the riser portion of the board was corroded, and the board would not post if it was inserted. The corrosion is very minor, so when I get some soldering equipment, it might be some good practice to attempt to repair the board, not that I even have a proper case for it anyways.

Not an April Fools Day joke, an actual project I was messing around with. I had some spare parts, but none of them worked together, so with the power of wire ties, I created this absolute abomination that was actually more jank than even the ORIGINAL "Ultimate DOS Machine" that Druaga built, because due to it being an ATX case, the ports weren't accessible at all unless the motherboard IO was facing UP.

Decked out my room for Christmas time with some classic incandescant lights. I know LED lights exist, but I love the classic look of these.

I took this photo with my Grandmas first digital camera that she bought in 2003. It looks authentic enough, but this camera actually takes suprisingly hi-res photos, 1600x1200. Don't remember the model name, I don't even know where the camera is.

The desktop of the original Windows 98 machine. I do actually still have the hard drive that has this install, and it still boots up on the new Windows 98 machine, with the new drivers, and the many new things put on there since this picture (freeze frame from a video clip) was taken.

Though at the time, it did work on Windows XP. The game shown here is "Roblox 2008 Simulator", now known as "MY Roblox". You go around places and try to find hats that give you badges. It's actually quite a fun and unique game.

Messing around with Roblox of all things on Windows 2000. Of course it didn't work.

In the same building as the Sr. Partner, also saw this old school wall mounted rotary telephone.

I never understood the deal with "teenagers don't know how to use a rotary phone". It's pretty straight forward. Most people have at least seen one in a movie.
Aug 15, 2015

Spotted an old Panasonic Sr. Partner on the floor in an old building. At least this thing's name still holds up. Had to notice the B sticker under the hard drive, makes me wonder if this thing had been upgraded in the past.

Some laptops, both of which I still have. The Dell Latitude c600 on the left was running Windows XP at the time, but it's now running Windows 2000. I used to use it for Visual Basic & Studio programming stuff, but I'm not sure what to do with it now. The one on the right is the Lenovo G575, my old laptop. It worked great, until I dropped it down some stairs. I still have what's left of it, but it's mostly parted out.

My dads Mid-2010 MacBook pro doing the only thing it does: eBay, YouTube and the general internet. This laptop is still in use today (Feb 2021), but is due for a replacement in the coming months, since after all it's nearly 11 years old!
Jan 28, 2012

A photo of our old laptop when it was brand new, the Lenovo G575. Not sure that the USB cables are for, but I still use that flash drive to this day. This laptop still exists, but it's mostly parted out.
