the roblox username update is STUPID.
OKAY, I get it, all the roblox usernames are taken. But at least that opens up a window to actually create a unique and creative username. But NO, teenage girls want to be able to call themselves "vivi" on roblox, so here we are.
DISPLAY NAMES SHOW UP FIRST IN SEARCHES
WHY is it set up this way? Display names somehow automatically take priority over the actual username in search, making it nearly impossible to find some account because a bunch of people changed their display name to be the SAME as someone else's, which also raises another problem...
IT'S EASY TO TRICK CHILDREN BY IMPERSONATING PEOPLE
In game, your real username can only be seen if you click on the account in the playerlist and see the tiny gray text under the big stupid display name. A significant amount of young children play my game, and how many of them do you think acutually check peoples real usernames, or even know what a display name/username is? Now this opens up a window for people to impersonate me and say things under my name because noone will check for the real username. Oh, and now this brings up another problem for when I check the chatlogs to verify this!
IT RUINS CHATLOGS
Now, I use Kohls Admin, because it's the only one I don't hate. I'm not sure if I'm running and old version or something, but in CHATLOGS, the thing that exists so you have PROOF of A SPECIFIC PERSON SAYING SOMETHING, it shows DISPLAY NAMES instead of USERNAMES. WHY? WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD IT EVER BE LIKE THIS? I got a message in my inbox about some people acting "interestingly" in one of my games, so when I checked the chatlogs (which also have supersafechat for some reason), the names are obviously DISPLAY NAMES!!! I never actually found the real account in the sea of identical usernames.
THEY REMOVED STATUSES FOR IT
Or so I've heard at least. Remember statuses? The textbox where you could tell people about stuff that's going on? Apparently, they were removed to "make space" for the real username after display names became the main name on user account pages. But the real username takes up NO SPACE AT ALL and STATUSES TOTALLY COULD'VE STAYED. I loved the status feature, but NOPE, gone for a STUPID UPDATE.
ACTUAL SUPPORT FOR IT IS SPOTTY
A lot of games with old chat scripts (most of my games as well because I mess with the chat and don't want to update it) still show actual usernames instead of display names, but the names over players will be their display names. This makes it insanely confusing and I often have to scroll through the playerlist trying to find the player's ACTUAL username
IT LETS "ANIME DISCORD KIDS" MAKE CRINGE USERNAMES
