DOS / Win3.1 IDE CD-ROM
Home Page - Computers
This is a page about getting a standard IDE CD drive to work in MS-DOS or Windows 3.1.
Drivers
You can download the OAK CD ROM Driver at the top of the page.
The ZIP file contains:
CD1.SYS
MSCDEX.EXE
You will need to copy these files somewhere on your hard drive. I have mine in the root directory.
You will need to modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files with the following lines.
CONFIG.SYS
DEVICE=CD1.SYS /D:ORANGE
LASTDRIVE=(letter)
|
AUTOEXEC.BAT
MSCDEX.EXE /D:ORANGE /L:(letter)
|
Please replace (letter) with your drive letter. Usually D or E.
I reccomend that you write the contents of the OAK_IDE.ZIP file to a floppy disk for easy access.
You can also write the config and autoexec lines on the label.
When loading Windows 3.x, you should be able to navigate to the CD drive.
