this page is under construction! (again)
Well, here I am again. It's been almost a year since I've done anything related to this section, so I think it's about time I revisit this.
First off, finally a new layout in 600px to fit with the rest of the site, and I'm pretty pleased with how it looks. Well, looks are great and all but we really need some new content.
Most of the existing pages on here are pretty old and low quality, so in the future I'll try to be updating and polishing these up while also writing up some new content on more TV stuff VHS related or not! Better video capturing, VCRs, Torrenting, OTA Television, Antennas, TV Recording and lots more cool stuff!
Maybe even a section for some of my favourite shows and movies! This is all about television after all!

Updates!
Alright so I did my every-other-year disappearance from the internet almost on time. For those of you who don't know, every other year I vanish from the internet. It's not a challenge or anything, it's just something I do without really thinking about it.
Today I decided to check up on my budget archives channel network. Last new upload on back was 11 months ago! Whew, I really need to get back on track. And by "back on track", I mean to get up off my rear end, go into the depths of the crawlspace, and pull out my massive heavy box of VHS tapes, and digitize all of them. Yes, all of them.
The few times I've digitized entire 6 hour tapes, it took some years off my life, but with some newly acquired equipment, I think I'm ready to pull off the task.
For the longest time, I've only digitized the things I uploaded to my channel. But I've begun to REALLY realize that if I don't get all this content digitized, it could be gone forever. I'm not saying that VHS tapes deteriorate at the speed of light, because they don't, but I really want to make sure this stuff is properly archived.
The old setup was my very underpowered main PC struggling to capture 30fps 640x480 deinterlaced video in OBS from a $10 EasyCAP connected to my very worn out early 2000's Sears VCR.
The new setup runs on my secondary computer, so it's not hogging my main PC. My seconday computers' specs can be seen on my PC
specs page.
For capture, I'm using an Elgato Video Capture connected to a much nicer Sony VCR. It was a thrift store find, don't know the model number, but it works great and has a much sharper, clearer image than my old VCR.
I'm capturing using OBS at 640x480, 29.97 FPS ?? interlacing. Haven't decided if I'll record interlaced or deinterlaced yet. I prefer having stuff deinterlaced, but it's not really the best for real archiving. Saving all the video files to a 500GB Seagate drive, but don't panic, I plan to replace it with a 1TB WD Blue soon to avoid a Seagate catastrophe.
Alright so It'll take a while, but it'll be worth it, and as I spot interesting things, I'll start to upload them to my YouTube channel again. As I go through the tapes, I'll also take the time to redo my very awfully written tape list into something that makes sense so you can look at it too.
Also, I haven't been out to get more tapes because thrift stores around me don't want VHS anymore, and eBay lots cost too much for stuff that almost always sucks (but I got 2 6 hour disney channel tapes in a mystery lot once!). Man I wish I lived near a Goodwill outlet store.
On that note, a few weeks ago I was tempted by a PBS kids & playhouse disney tape on eBay, but I didn't buy it because it was $40. While waiting for the price to go down to at MOST $15 someone bought it for $40. wtf

New news too soon? I don't know. Anyways make sure you read Dec 3 if you haven't. It's kinda important.
Just 2 small updates and some future content to announce, there's now a "photos" section below the news, mostly photos of my setup and stuff, but I can put television related images there if I want to.
Also, when looking for images for said section, I ran across
the oldest known copy of the budget archives home page, last updated Dec 26, 2016, from back when my channel was called "garfieldfan89". Ah yes.
I decided on a video to upload for Christmas + 500 sub special: A setup tour & Q+A! My last Q+As were never too successful, but maybe one of the 500 viewers has something to ask. I don't know how I feel about doing a "voice reveal", but we'll see how it goes. Also for the special, I was working on a page of how budget archives came to be in 2016, as well as where my interest in television archival came from back in 2014. Stay tuned!
I created my channel on Apr 26, 2016, and on Apr 26, 2021, we'll be celebrating 5 years of budget archives! Thanks to all the people who supported my channel over time! You guys are great. I hope I could help bring back your long lost television memories.

Merry Christmas time, eh? You see that cool GIF up top that I got from GifCities? Yeah.
Since Christmas is a time to give, I figured your present and my gift to you this year should be an actual video upload for the first time in like 3 months. Not sure what would be worthy of that though. Probably something recorded in December, I don't know. I've already uploaded everything interesting from the Dec 28 1998 Nick JR tape. Oh well.
Also your other Christmas gift is an update to the tape list (this will take a long time so bear with me), becuase the tape list is very vuage and it also sucks. Planning on adding more episode names and extra details.
An extra thanks for the subscribers despite the uploads, we just passed over the 530 subscriber mark today!
I hope you have a great Christmas time, holiday, or whatever! I'll see you in the new year!

How's my YouTube channel? Well, it's been fairly quiet because I have been tied up with other tasks recently, and I've had to temporarily stop my 2 videos per week upload schedule. The other reason is simply that -- I'm almost out of content to upload. Sure, I have a LOT of content nobody has seen on the channel, but how much of it is WORTH uploading? Please check my
tape list!
Sorry if the index is a bit broad on what things are, but if something is interesting please tell me, because I can't just bore you with 2007 commercials from ABC every week.
Also new
unlabeled tapes page. See, this website is totally still alive.

YouTube sucks. So does Google. The new layout absolutely murders my 3mbps internet and is completely unnecessary, just to add more stupid eye candy and pointless features that nobody really needs. This main
dvd3000.ca Homepage can be viewed on almost any computer with a web browser. Now why can't I use YouTube on the 10 year old computer that I could before on the old layout.
You're probably asking "what new layout?" I'm talking about the current one. I was holding out on the old layout for 2 years by using a Firefox plugin (chrome is also shit), and now Google has finally killed the classic layout. Even with the plugin, classic has been completely removed. Layout changes are BS. The layout change will happen when Google decides to do it, and you effectivley have no say in the course of the transition. It's either adapt, or piss off.
I would move to a YouTube alternative such as Vlare (rip) or VidLii, but the problem is that if you are not on the major platform, your followers will assume that you are dead. Everyone seems to only use the big media controlled by a faceless corporation, and will insist that this is somehow better than all others. What in the world is the internet.

Ahahahhah my channel got a copyright warning. Anyways PSA: Don't livestream television!
Anyways, uploaded 2 videos again so hopefully you guys aren't too disappointed. Sorry to the like 4 viewers of the stream.
I wrote a page about it:
My first copyright warning!

To celebrate 400 subscribers on my YouTube channel, I'm going to live stream the entirety of the BBC Kids VHS tape that brought a lot of you to this channel.
I'll be online on May 30 @ 8:00 PM PST on
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I62vzqrkQVo
I could've done this for 500 subs, but that won't happen until 2030 at this rate, so subscribe, since apparently only 2% of people who watch this channel are subscribed. (thanks youtube)

Spring cleaning was cancelled because of the corona. I look outside and theres nothing. No VHS tapes this year, I suppose.

This is epic, my new capture device is here.

Merry Christmas!
Ok so i'm hoping to get an
Elgato Video Capture as my next
capture device. When I eventually get it i'll be putting my opinions
in my
Adventures in capture devices page.
Also I might be going to a Goodwill Outlet store. Unfortunatley, the
closest location to me is over 2 hours away, but i'm hoping to get a few
more tapes.
After all this time of not capturing stuff, I have accumulated hours of
footage, so stay tuned on my YT Channel!
